The question for the Demon Hunter was which crossbow(s) to make to go with her. I was tempted to have two for posing purposes, but practicality won out in the end - if I'm walking round a con all weekend, I need one hand free at least. But if it was only going to be one, then at least it would be a cool looking one. So I went with the Hellion / Porcupine variation.
The body and limbss are an MDF base slotted together, then the whole thing is covered and decorated in Worbla. The horns are hollow - I started off by wrapping Worbla round a form to make the end tips, then removing the form, attaching the tips to the limbs, then working freehand to get the curve. Honestly, it was one of the most awkward afternoons I have ever spent. THE most awkward afternoon had to be painting the damned thing.
Sadly, practicality didn't entirely happen - turns out this thing weighs a lot more than you think it does in the end, and all the weight is loaded towards the front, so it does kill your wrist a bit. Still we suffer for our art!
