Cosplay Props: Mass Effect M8 Rifle by LittleBlondeGoth Cosplay Props: Mass Effect M8 Rifle by LittleBlondeGoth

This is the finished M8 that Si created to go with his Commander Shepard cosplay.

Just like the armour builds, it's made from EVA foam tiles, though these ones are a bit thicker than usual. The gun was built up using a few layers of it, cut to shape, with a supporting piece of foamcore in the middle. That basic structure was sanded down and shaped by a Dremel. Extra pieces were added by thin, 2mm craft foam, and raiding the Ikea leftovers drawer to find screws and fixtures that made the fittings on the side.

The whole thing was then sprayed matt black as a base, then masked off to paint the silver areas. These had a couple of coats and dustings of different grey shades, to give it some depth, and an aluminium touch up pen added in the weathering. Finally, the M8 logo was sprayed on using a stencil, and we had some decals made up for the small print, which also got weathered with some black.

I have a question for you; how many layers of regular EVA foam tiles did you use aside from the crafting form? I'm in the process of cutting out my layers for my own rifle.

It was about 4 layers of 10mm floor tiles, plus a piece of foam core board in the middle to keep it rigid. :)

Ah okay. I have a little bit of wooden dowel strips that I'm going to make the main support from on the inside. Then I have the two central and two outer layers. After that, I need to cut out the detailed layers all while balancing school life, ahah.

Thanks again for the help!!

FINALLY, someone who has done it right.

the m8 avenger's top barrel has NO slant to it. the gun's side surface is flat. the m7 lancer has a slant to it's top curve. the m8 model has no slant because they needed more space to fit the thermal clip into it.

Thanks very much. :)
We did try our best to get this and the Carnifex accurate - lots of studying of screenshots and in-game models, that kind of thing. If you're going to do it, might as well do it right, after all.

no problem C:
and by golly have you indeed done it right. i make mass effect props and costumes. i have yet to show this. though i have posted 1 picture of my m7 lancer. it has yet to be completed. most of it was from memory, though at the end i did have to look back into the game. but this is pretty much how you do it. google images is good and all. but to get things right you really have to go the extra mile.

keep up the good work :3
