Cosplay Props: Mass Effect M8 Rifle

This is a close up of the finished M8 that Si created to go with his Commander Shepard cosplay.

Just like the armour builds, it's made from EVA foam tiles, though these ones are a bit thicker than usual. The gun was built up using a few layers of it, cut to shape, with a supporting piece of foamcore in the middle. That basic structure was sanded down and shaped by a Dremel. Extra pieces were added by thin, 2mm craft foam, and raiding the Ikea leftovers drawer to find screws and fixtures that made the fittings on the side.

The whole thing was then sprayed matt black as a base, then masked off to paint the silver areas. These had a couple of coats and dustings of different grey shades, to give it some depth, and an aluminium touch up pen added in the weathering. Finally, the M8 logo was sprayed on using a stencil, and we had some decals made up for the small print, which also got weathered with some black.
